The inclusion of the La Jara Mesa project in the US government’s second wave of critical mineral production projects to receive fast-track treatment underscores the importance of uranium’s role in domestic energy security, said Laramide Resources CEO Marc Henderson.

In a statement welcoming the project’s inclusion to the federal permitting dashboard under the FAST-41 programme, Henderson said that the enhanced transparency and coordination process would facilitate an efficient path forward to advancing La Jara Mesa to production.

“We are very pleased that La Jara Mesa has been recognised as a priority critical minerals project and included on the US federal permitting dashboard,” he stated.

The designation is part of the second tranche of critical minerals projects added to the dashboard under Executive Order 13817, which was first issued during the Trump administration to accelerate development of domestic mineral supply chains. The dashboard provides public access to permitting timelines, aiming to improve transparency, accountability, and interagency coordination.

La Jara Mesa, in New Mexico, is a sandstone-hosted uranium deposit with a National Instrument 43-101-compliant resource estimate of 7.26-million pounds of uranium oxide (U₃O₈) in the measured and indicated categories at an average grade of 0.23%. The project also hosts an additional 3.17-million pounds of U₃O₈ in the inferred category, grading 0.20%.

The project lies about 16 km north-east of the town of Grants, within the Mount Taylor Ranger district of the Cibola National Forest. Laramide has been working through the permitting process, with the US Forest Service currently preparing an environmental impact statement under the National Environmental Policy Act to evaluate the potential development of an underground mine and related surface infrastructure.
